For me the install is one of the most rewarding things about building.

I’ve been a draftsman with various trades for the last 20(ish) years and freelancing for Bowcor Custom Welding in Canmore, Alberta for the last seven. Last week they sent me a few photos of the install of a project I prepared shop drawings for this summer – a new hotel in Banff. Q-deck and open web steel joists, various structural components and some really big trusses. I hate lugging a miscut drawer front back to the shop, so it’s always a relief to hear “fit like a glove” – especially working with steel that big.

And in the shop (on a smaller scale) a Christmas commission of small splined treasure boxes. From my offcuts – maple, teak, walnut, cherry, (whatever I’ve got around the shop), with a beeswax finish. And there’s more of these to come.
